‘Visual Kei’ may sound like a simple tag, but there’s more than meets the eye with this particular movement. The majority of the people interested in the scene are fans of Visual Kei bands and musicians (so called ‘V-Cos’). There are however groups of people who are simply interested in the fashion side of things, people usually found at new rave parties and certain club events.
The ‘Gothic Lolita’ style has firmly become a world famous fashion trend. Its popularized style originates from the Visual Kei scene, which developed an almost religious following in Japan in the nineties. Visual Kei has had an influence on musicians in many countries, most famously in Germany, Finland, Britain and America and grew into one of the biggest trends in the world.
Have you noticed recent fashion changes in visual kei bands? Their fashion styles and make-ups have toned down to appear more natural and conservative. Even Daishi, a lead singer and guitarist of Amaterase Daishi who has been known for extravagant costumes and radical makeup since his debut, is now choosing white-based stylish outfits and almost no make-up.
